 Latvia Culture college, one of the most experienced and rich in traditions colleges in Latvia, offers modern cultural education according to the demands of labor market. LCC  was founded in 1946 as Latvia School of Cultural Employees. According to the rapid in changes political situation, the reorganization was carried out in 1990 and some innovative curriculums were developed and introduced relevant to the demands of the new economical situation and labour market. Currently  LCC provides  first level professional  higher education programs in arts and culture management:

• Management of Culture with specializations  in

 -amateur theatre direction,

 - festival and event direction,

 - music management,

 - exhibitions management,

 - publishing,

 - environmental design

• Contemporary Dance

• Amateur theatre  direction

• Culture Tourism management

• Public Relations and Advertising

• Library Science and Information Technologies

College offers further education programmes as well as distance learning courses in culture management and performing arts subjects

Special attention is being paid to the role of new information technologies in the training process as well as to placements- the practical part of study programs is 16 credit points of 100 CP in total. 

The educational programs, realized by Latvia Culture college is linking up two directions, dictated by current situation:

1.      The direction of the content quality- the professionally prepared specialist of the culture sphere with large-scale knowledge in culture subjects and in modern culture management;

2.      The direction of form and realization- the man who is well- orientating in existing situation, being able to  accept  untraditional decisions, confident about own idea, being able to fascinate and convince the audience.

There are 500 or so  students and 50 teachers in the  college. Students can enroll after the graduation of secondary schools. The duration of studies is 2-3 years.

Latvia Culture college  has expertise in educational and cultural processes in Latvia and Baltic region, as well as appropriate manager and researcher/lecturer staff  enabling active participation in  and coordinator of many transnational   projects. Among partners of LCC are more than 30 partners in 21 countries. 

During last ten years LCC has coordinated a number of mobility projects un under EC Leonardo da Vinci initiative. As a result of it  more than 30 students and teachers accomplished placement and exchange programmes in 12 countries and more than 15  institutions. 

 

LCC has been the co-ordinator of three pilot projects under Leonardo da Vinci initiative:

·                     Culture Management and New Information Technologies (1997-1999)
Project outcome - educational program in culture management  

·                     Public Library Management and New Information Technologies( 2000-2002)
Project outcome- training modules in library management 

·                     SECTOUR- Security in Tourism- Innovations in Tourism Educational Programmes and Business Practice ( 2005-2007)
Project outcomes:

- Training tool ''A guide of safety aspects within tourist routes`, including all relevant travel safety and security areas, which should be considered by the tourism service provider and travelers, accompanied by practical examples about tourism safety and security.

- Recommendations for tourism service providers ''Safety and security aspects in tourism service management and marketing. 

 

LCC has partnership experience in following transnational projects:

Leonardo da Vinci programme:

·                     TOURNEU-Cultural and economic aspects of incoming tourism in new EU countries ( 2008-2010)
The aim of the project is the development, transfer and implementation of multimedial, job oriented foreign language teaching material for employees in tourism of new EU members (Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia), so that they can prepare lifelong at their workplace for an effective, sustainable incoming tourism, enhance their creativity and entrepreneurial competence. 

The most important result of the project is a voluminous, modular structured, practical experienced Blended Learning source for the lifelong vocational learning in the field of tourism for the different areas of work and linguistic knowledge levels and the intercultural European communication (extern-intern website: www.tourneu.eu), multilingual learning with digital media (CD-ROMs/DVDs) and written materials (multimedia handbook).

·                     TPB Leap/Creative Futures- ( 2007-2010)
As a “Transfer of Innovation” project TPB Leap - Creative Futures aims to update and upgrade the content of the curriculum “The Performance Bridge” to today's standards and practice of e-learning.

The objective is to prepare an e-learning package for future use on the web by projecting it into the Virtual World.

·                     TSST- Training Safety and Security in Tourism 2008-1-BG1-LEO05-00437 (2007-2010)
Transfer of Innovation project regarding improvement of educational programme of tourism management

·                     Management training for culture managers ( 1998-1999)

Project result- training modules for culture management specialists 

·                     Hum@no (2001-2004)

Project result- information and advisory tool for improvement of competitiveness of the graduates of humanity sciences in the labor market 

·                     The Performance bridge (2002-2005)
Project result- training tool in the modules format, foreseen for improvement of knowledge and skills or for re-qualification of the dance and other performance and entertainment sector professionals 
 

·                     Educational program Creative Child in Culture Management ( 2004-2006)
Project result-  educational module with opportunities of interactive learning concerning aspects of work with children in culture management 

Socrates programme: 

·                     The Big Picture Network (2003-2006)
Project results- transnational network of arts educators across Europe exchanging ideas, information and material; an interactive website promoting the arts in post-16 non-advanced education; ongoing & expanding links with cultural professionals & specialists in further & higher education

·                     On the Edge ( 2005-2008)
Expected results: Development of teacher training material regarding creating of understanding about  EU issues
